Planetary aspects play an important role in Ilm –e-adad. Therefore, awareness about the aspects is essential to gain mastery over this subject. The cosmic energies of the planets have a tendency to get affected by the positioning if the planets with respect to each other, at any time in the position of the zodiac in the houses. Certain planetary positions may create situations which reinforce these energies, while some positions create a disturbing effect. This kind of relation between planetary positions is known as Aspects. These aspects help us to ascertain how the planets mingle to kindle and hold back each other's influence. They are divided into two groups: harmonious or tense and major or minor. Harmonious aspects are also called positive or benefic and the tense ones are also called difficult, negative or malefic.
The major planetary aspects are as follows:
Conjunction: If two planets are close to the similar degree and in the similar zodiac sign, the aspect is called Conjunction. A conjunction is the strongest aspect and it signifies that the two planets engaged have a strong influence and are a vital point in the chart. Conjunction is valuable for the benefic planets and harmful for the malefic planets. Sun, Moon, Venus, Mercury and Jupiter are the benefic planets. Saturn, Uranus and Mars are malefics.
Square: If 2 planets are found to be 90° apart then the aspect is referred to as Square. The 1st house will constantly be in Square with the 4rth house. This aspect is believed to be tense or negative (Nahis asghar). Hence, the amals associated with negative issues such as enmity or destruction are performed in this aspect.
Opposition: When 2 planets are found to be 180° apart the aspect is known as Opposition. This is a negative aspect (Nahis asghar). This aspect is very strong and it positions the planets in clash with each other. It creates discord, strain, or separation. This aspect is helpful in doing amals such as: creating dispute or estrangement, divorce, war, illness, destroying enemies etc.
Sextile: When 2 planets are 60° apart the aspect is referred to as Sextile. The 1st House is constantly in sextile with the 3rd one. This is a harmonious and positive aspect (Saad asgar). Hence, it is helpful for performing positive amals or worldly tasks.
Trine: When 2 planets are 120° apart, the aspect is known as Trine. This is a very harmonious and positive aspect. The 1st House is constantly in trine to the 5th one. Trine brings together the energies of 2 planets into an easy interaction. It also enables easy interaction between two planets. So this aspect is believed to be a helpful one for performing amals associated to bringing about friendship, love etc
