Assalam o alaikum,
Allah (swt) says in the Holy Quran:
“And the Moon- We have determined for it phases until it returns (appearing) like an old date stalk”.
(TMQ- 36:39)
This verse of the Holy Quran speaks about Al-manzil al Qamar or the lunar mansions. The Holy Quran (saw) speaks about an aspect of astrology in verse36:39.
The Arab astrologers had assigned great importance to the 28 phases of the Moon. The Lunar Mansions
mark the total distance which the Moon travels in one day. The Moon travels through its 28 mansions in about 28 days. The sidereal revolution of the Moon is of 27.32 days. Therefore, in the Arabic system the number of the Lunar Mansions has been approximated as 28. The Moon seems to move around the celestial sphere once in around 28 days (as seen from the Earth). Hence, it is known as a sidereal month.
Before performing an amal one has to observe the lunar mansion because the Moon’s different phases can produce different effects on the amal.
I have given a chart below which shows in detail which lunar mansion is suitable for performing what type of amal.
